While your son's note is a bit humorous, I'm glad you took it as a chance to encourage him, and build him up a bit.

Small wins are so important in life- and it pays to focus on the small positive moves forward that you're making - it transfers into big changes and big wins eventually.

Great post!

Great advice.
And I wouldn't too much about your son. With that self-deprecating humor, he's got a shot at standup comedy! Maybe instead of "Get 'Er Done," his catch phrase can be "Get 'er Paid Off."

I didn't like that note either! Crossed off the "idiot" part and wrote "nice little boy" that night before bed. I guess that shows that it's good to have someone in your life who will stick up for you (even if it's you insulting yourself). Also, someone who will tell you the truth about who you are. If you call yourself and "idiot" or say "I'm just not good with money" enough then you give yourself permission to live beneath your potential. It's nice to have someone who can say "you are not an idiot, but you are undisciplined - that's something you can work on."
